ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Fr Charles Cummings of Utah and Sr Maria Gonzalo of Crozet are working on a selection of texts that represent essential values of our Cistercian Tradition. Every three months, we will offer a mentoring text from a Cistercian writer. We will also provide a short introduction to the text, which will facilitate the comprehension, and an application of its main ideas to our daily lives. Both the introduction and the application will try to be a bridge between the mediaeval style and our contemporary way of thinking.

The chosen text will not be too lengthy (a sermon or part of a treatise), but long enough so that we can discover the style and teaching method of the Cistercian masters.

History of project

Introductory note by Br. Cassian:

In the last year, Sr. Maria Gonzalo of Crozet has been talking with me of a project (Cistercian Mentors) she would like to propose for the juniors (and others) that could also enrich our Regional vocation website. At Snowmass, Maria outlined this to the juniors; most were willing to undertake the project. I presented her idea to our superiors at the last Regional Meeting. They were supportive, but asked that others be included; that the writing be not limited only to juniors.

The Participants

The focal group of this program are juniors and recently solemnly professed, but any member of our Cistercian communities who could benefit from it is welcome on board!
